Add a menu item

Last verified

What it does. Menu items are the individual dishes, drinks, and services in your catalog. Add one once and reuse it on any event or package.

When you’d use it. Setting up your catalog for the first time, or adding a new dish you’ve started selling.

How to add it

  1. In the top menu, open Catalog and choose Menu Items.
  2. Click New Menu Item.
  3. Enter a name and pick a tax category (both required). A description and item group are optional.
  4. To cost the item from its ingredients, pick a recipe in Linked recipe.
  5. Under Pricing, set the price (what you charge). Optionally set the cost (what it costs you); with a recipe linked, it comes from the recipe.
  6. Click Create Menu Item.

Optional extras

  • Purchase unit and pack size. Fill both to convert quantities on shopping list reports, for example buying by the case.
  • Gratuity, service charge, tax exempt. These control which charges apply automatically when the item is added to an event.

What you’ll see. The item opens on its own page with its price, cost and margin. It’s in your Menu Items list and ready to add to events and packages.
